Many people will be curious and have questions about our counselling services and how it can benefit them. Everyone’s needs and requirements are different in terms of the issue at hand and therapy goals. Some may be able to self-manage after 5 to 6 sessions while some will see counselling as part of their self-care journey and continue counselling once a month. It is noteworthy that for the first few sessions, it is recommended to be weekly and subsequent sessions’ frequency will be based on your counsellor’s recommendation.

To understand why you are seeking therapy, the initial session is for the counsellor to gather information to get to know you better. You may also experience a range of emotions from sharing unpleasant aspects of your life but that is okay. We encourage you to be open in sharing your problems or your feelings. Have realistic goals and remember that change will take time and therapy is an ongoing process

Counselling provides a safe space for you to share difficult emotions and it aims to deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain. Counselling also provides you with support for an array of life challenges. Counselling does not make your problem go away. It is a process where you will work with your counsellor to explore a more effective and healthier coping mechanism with the aim to help you feel better.

Anyone who is comfortable to conduct counselling via an online video platform. Online counselling is a convenient alternative compared with face-to-face. It is important to note that for online counselling to be effective, you will need to have a private and safe space during the session. Like face-to-face sessions, only you and the counsellor can be present during counselling.

Yes we do. For clients under the age of 18, parental consent will be sought.

Yes and Calming Hearts Counselling is a LGBTQ+ allied practice.

LGBTQ community face a higher risk of having mental health issues which could be due to several factors for example, family/friends who are not accepting their sexual orientation or working in an environment where people are homophobic or transphobic to name a couple. At Calming Hearts, we practice non-judgemental counselling and you can be assured that this will be a safe space for you.

We adhere to the code of ethics set out by the Singapore Association of Counselling. All information disclosed during counselling is kept private and confidential unless there is a clear and imminent danger to you or others.

Both the counsellor and the client cannot do any recording either via videotaping or audio recording during any face to face and online counselling sessions without prior consent of both parties.

If you need to reschedule an appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled time so we may be able to offer your appointment to someone else. If you fail to reschedule an appointment, we cannot use this time for another client and you will be billed for the cost of your missed appointment as follows:

For notice period less than 24 hours, missed appointment fee is 20% of the counselling fee

For notice period less than 12 hours, Missed appointment fee is 50% of the counselling fee
